Peter Obi Explain How E Wan Move Nigeria From "Consumption" Go "Production"

Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, don explain im plan to change Nigeria from country wey dey only consume to country wey dey produce. E talk say agriculture, manufacturing, and support for small businesses go be di foundation of economic growth if dem vote am as president.

E talk am during Sunday Politics interview on Sunday.

Obi talk say Nigeria get land, resources and people wey fit make am one of di biggest food producers and exporters for di world, but we no dey use di potential well.
According to am, to grow economy, create jobs and reduce poverty, we must produce more things here instead of dey depend on import.

“Di only way to pull Nigeria out of poverty, or even grow GDP well-well, na through production, not consumption. And production dey start with agriculture — e go give you food, raw materials for factory, and jobs. Na win-win,” e talk.

E add say if we invest well, Nigeria fit produce enough food to feed ourselves and even make more money from agriculture pass oil.
“This country fit produce enough of wetin we fit chop, and we fit make more money from agriculture pass oil because today, we get plenty land wey dey waste,” di former governor talk.

E use rice give example. E say Nigeria dey produce less than 10 million tonnes of unmilled rice every year, and say years of cheap food import don spoil di market for local farmers.
“We’ve used cheap importation to kill our farmers. We fit do better,” e talk.

To show how possible e be, Obi compare Nigeria with Bangladesh.
E say even though Bangladesh get small land, dem dey produce 15 to 16 million tonnes of unmilled rice every year, and now dem be among di top 3 or 4 rice producers for di world.

“Bangladesh today dey produce 15 to 16 million tonnes of unmilled rice… dem now dey number 3 or 4 for di world,” e talk.

E conclude say if Bangladesh fit do am with small land, Nigeria with our own big-big arable land fit do even pass.

Obi maintain say if farmlands dey secure, manufacturing sector dey work, business people dey get cheap loan, and government dey support consistently, Nigeria fit build productive economy.
